KHRESCHATIK KIEV UKRAINE
In times of Kievan Rus (more than 1000 years ago), this area was a wooded valley through which flowed a stream. In those days it was hunting ground and later it was a place of the fairs of ancient Kiev. For almost 10 centuries it was a under populated street of Kiev, and only in terms of Kiev layout in 1837 did the street get its final shape. According to the draft street it is extended to the current Bessarabian Square, includes three areas and is named Khreshchatytska. The first hotel of Kiev was built on Khreschatik.
Modern Khreshchatyk is the central line and business center of Kiev. It stretches from Europe to the area of Bessarabia Square. There are some buildings and other objects located here, such as the Kiev City Council, the Central Department Store, underground railway stations Khreshchatyk and Independence Square, a huge number of administrative offices, shops, hotels, cafes and restaurants.
On weekends and holidays, the whole transport of Kreschatik from Bessarabian Square to The Independence Square is blocked. The street becomes for pedestrians only, which creates a sharp contrast with Khreschatyk on a weekday.
And citizens, and guests (who live in many hotels nearby) can enjoy a walk along Khreschatik, feel the atmosphere of the city, listen to the street musicians, artists, participate in different contests, as well as look into the fashion and gift shops. And if you inspect Kreshatyk and think you can be tired during it - do not worry, it is so easy, because the length of the main street is just a little more than a kilometer.
The reconstruction and development of Kreshchatik continues today. Constructing new buildings in this part of town, people try to keep all the good decisions the last building in mind, because Khreshchatyk is the main street of the capital of Ukraine.
